Canon Fred Stallard's
drawing of his medical
corporal, Fujiie
Canon Fred Stallard - former Taiwan FEPOW

During my POW life in Taiwan, I made great friends with a medical corporal named Fujiie. He really saved my life when I collapsed with cerebral malaria.
I also knew several Christian guards. It was dangerous for them to talk to us, but they often did. One came to a Communion service ·it was a wonderful moment. I drew a lot in prison camp and I still have a picture of Fujiie. My biggest memory of the spirit amongst the prisoners was of the tremendous hope we all had. This is extraordinary because when we were first taken prisoner, things looked very black indeed. Agape is doing a wonderful reconciliation work of building bridges between Japan and Britain. May its work continue for many years to come.
